About the event
Learn the timeless art of pine needle coiling in this hands-on, meditative fiber arts class. Participants will create a small coiled basket or sculptural form starting with a stone, slice of wood, or other natural center, then build outward using longleaf pine needles and waxed thread. You’ll explore traditional stitching techniques, shaping as you go, and how to incorporate natural embellishments like beads or wood rings for handles or accents.
This class is perfect for beginners and makers of all kinds — slow, rhythmic, portable, and deeply grounding. You’ll leave with a beautiful finished (or nearly finished) piece and the skills to continue coiling on your own at home.
Please note: This guided workshop begins at 9:00 AM. A small basket can take 6 to 7 hours. We will stop at 3:00 PM. Participants can take their baskets home to finish if not finished in class. We will take a break for lunch. Some light snacks and refreshments will be provided.
Class is capped at 8 participants. Online registration is required. All ages. A parent or guardian must accompany youth under 12 years of age. $50 per person.
