About the event
In celebration of National Preservation Month, Creston Arts and the Creston Historic Preservation Commission invite you to a free community plein air event from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 25th, in Uptown Creston. Meet at 12:30 p.m. at Creston Arts Center to gather supplies and materials.
Plein air is the act of creating art outdoors, working directly from the landscape, street, or structure in front of you. It’s a chance to slow down, observe, and interpret your surroundings in real time. Your piece can be a detailed architectural sketch, an abstract painting, or anything in between — there’s no right way to see or share what you see.
Paint and drawing supplies will be provided for those without their own materials, but all mediums are welcome. Whether you're a beginner or a professional, we invite you to create a masterpiece in your own style, at your own pace.
This event will be guided by Kelly Devitt, Instructor of Art at Southwestern Community College. Kelly brings her passion for creative expression and community to help support artists of all ages and backgrounds.
As we make art together, you’ll also have the chance to learn about Uptown Creston’s architectural character and why it matters. The Creston Historic Preservation Commission is working to designate this area as a historic district, recognizing the cultural and structural legacy of our community and its importance for future generations.
All ages welcome. No experience necessary. Participants may also submit their finished work to be part of a community exhibition at the Creston Arts Gallery in October. Registration is helpful, but drop-ins are welcome. For more information, contact Sarah Scull at 641-344-0403 or info@crestonarts.org.
