Creston Art’s Chalk the Town program continues into its 11th year with a few changes.
June 7th, 2024. CRESTON, IA— Creston Arts’ Chalk the Town program is celebrating its 11th year this summer of 2024. Slight changes have been made to the program, while still keeping the best parts: Chalk, Art, and Community. Several factors including time, safety, and comfort played into the changes.
Chalk the Town, now called Chalk with Us, is a Creston Arts program that partners with the Chamber of Commerce and area youth to decorate the town for thousands of visitors for Independence Day celebrations.
“Chalk the Town is a community engagement activity,” explains Brian Zachary, Board President of Creston Arts. “Families and friends come together to beautify Creston for the 4th of July, and the many visitors that join us. Have fun and meet fellow artists in Creston. We provide everything you need, including pizza for lunch!”
Businesses, and now individuals, will still be welcome to join us and support this event by sponsoring a chalk mural, however, all of the murals will be along the Walk of Chalk, located on the north side of the 400 block of Adams St., near the Creston Arts Center. The sponsors of each mural will be identified and sent a picture of their mural. They will also be recognized on our social media. Those who want to sponsor a chalk mural at their location or Walk of Chalk can do so by going to www.crestonarts.com/chalk-the-town.
To help create the chalk murals, volunteers can come to the Creston Arts Center located at 411 W Adams St, from 9 am to 4 pm on July 2nd and 3rd. Creston Arts will provide tents, water, sunscreen, gloves, hats, pads, and other mural chalking needs. Music will be performed for entertainment. Free pizza lunch will be provided to the volunteers. Spaces will be marked off for volunteers who want to create their own designs. Free chalk packs will still be provided by Creston Arts and the Creston Chamber of Commerce.
