NOVEMBER EVENTS AT CRESTON ARTS

October 29, 2025. CRESTON, IA — Basket weaving, Barn quilt painting, clay making, and more creative workshops at the Creston Arts Center.


Coiled Pine Needle Basketry

In this workshop held on Saturday, November 1, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., participants will learn the art of pine needle coiling in this hands-on, meditative fiber arts class. Participants will create a small coiled basket. This class is perfect for beginners and makers of all kinds. Participants will leave with a finished piece and the skills to continue coiling on their own at home. There will be a break for lunch. Some light snacks and refreshments will be provided. All skill levels and ages are welcome in this class. Online registration is required at www.crestonarts.org.


Clay Club with Blake

In this two-part workshop, led by professional ceramicist Blake Fry-Schnormeier on Thursdays, November 6 from 5 to 8 p.m., and November 20 from 6 to 8 p.m., participants will learn the fundamentals of hand building and create a clay piece. In the second class, they will learn the process of glazing ceramics. The clay creations require two firings in a kiln, a bisque and glaze firing. Once the pieces are fired, they will be available for pick up at the art center. Materials will be provided. No prior experience is necessary. All skill levels and ages are welcome in this class. Stencil Barn Quilt Painting Workshop

In this workshop on Saturday, November 15, from 9 a.m. to noon, participants will paint their own 2’x2’ barn quilt with barn quilt artist Charlene Watkin. Participants will choose from one of four pre-sketched designs and learn how to tape, stencil, and paint a weather-ready barn quilt from start to finish. All materials are provided, including a primed 2' x 2' board. This workshop is perfect for beginners—no prior experience is needed. All skill levels and ages are welcome in this class. Watercolor Workshop

At the watercolor workshop held on Tuesday, November 18, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Creston Arts Center, participants will explore color, creativity, and the calming flow of water and pigment. Participants can expect a relaxing evening of watercolor painting at the Creston Arts Center. This monthly painting session is a chance to unwind and connect with others in a creative space. Ideal for beginners or those wanting to enhance their skills. All skill levels and ages are welcome in this class. Online registration is required at www.crestonarts.org


Paint with Melissa!

Participants can join Melissa for a fun crafting class on Saturday, November 29, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Creston Arts Center. This is an easy-to-follow crafting class where people of all skill levels are invited. This month, Melissa and participants will create Christmas decorations. The workshop is designed to be a fun and relaxing experience, where participants can unwind and express their creativity without the pressure of perfection. All materials will be provided. Honoring our Heritage: A Celebration of Connection and Memory

The Creston Community Middle School and High School Art Departments invite the public to explore shared human experience—honoring heritage and loved ones while envisioning a brighter future. From storytelling, family trees, and placing flowers at cemeteries here in the Midwest, to traditions in Los Angeles, Mexico, Guatemala, and El Salvador, Creston Community School students reflect on how people around the world honor their ancestors.


An Opening Reception will be held on Friday, November 7, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Creston Arts Depot Gallery located within Creston’s Restored Depot at 116 W Adams St.. Light refreshments will be provided.
