OCTOBER EVENTS AT CRESTON ARTS

September 27, 2025. CRESTON, IA — Storytelling, painting, crafting, and more with Creston Arts this fall season.

Storyteller Social Club

Writers, poets, and storytellers of all kinds are invited for an informal gathering on October 4 at 9 a.m. at the Creston Arts Center. This is where ideas are shared, connections are made, and collaborations take root. Here, creative writers will explore how storytelling—whether on the page, the stage, or in conversation—becomes a catalyst for growth, change, and deeper understanding. The meeting is hosted by Sarah Scull, of Iowa Writers Collaborative and Iowa Storyteller Project. Come to swap stories, spark creativity, and discover the power of collective imagination. All skill levels and ages are welcome in this class. Online registration is required at www.crestonarts.org.

Clay Club with Blake

In this two-part workshop, led by professional ceramicist Blake Fry-Schnormeier on October 9 and 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. (both days), participants will learn the fundamentals of hand building and create a clay piece. In the second class, they will learn the process of glazing ceramics. The clay creations require two firings in a kiln, a bisque and glaze firing. Once the pieces are fired, they will be available for pick up at the art center. Materials will be provided. No prior experience is necessary. All skill levels and ages are welcome in this class. Online registration is required at www.crestonarts.org.

Preserve Creston at the Creston Arts Depot Gallery

Creston Arts and the Creston Historic Preservation Commission have partnered for a special reception and guest talk by Jane Briley on October 18 at 10 a.m. Jane will share updates on the commission’s work toward Uptown’s historic designation and explain why protecting our architectural heritage matters for generations to come.

Alongside the conversation, visitors will enjoy an exhibition of artwork by Iowa artists inspired by Creston’s historic buildings and landscapes. Those who have a piece of art that reflects Creston’s architectural past can submit their work by emailing info@crestonarts.org.

Watercolor Workshop

At the watercolor workshop held on Tuesday, October 21, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Creston Arts Center, participants will learn techniques for blending, layering, and creating stunning effects with washes and textures. Ideal for beginners or those wanting to enhance their skills. All skill levels and ages are welcome in this class. Online registration is required at www.crestonarts.org

Craft with Melissa!

Participants can join Melissa for a fun crafting class on Saturday, October 25, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Creston Arts Center. This is an easy-to-follow crafting class where people of all skill levels are invited. This month, Melissa and participants will craft a fall turkey. The workshop is designed to be a fun and relaxing experience, where participants can unwind and express their creativity without the pressure of perfection. All materials will be provided.
